Administration
The Village of Chester appoints a Clerk/Treasurer responsible for the following under the Municipal Government Act:
- Record all by-laws, resolutions, decisions and other proceedings of the village commission;
- If requested by any village commissioner, record the vote of every village commissioner voting on any matter;
- Keep the books, records and accounts of the village;
- Preserve and file all accounts, original and certified copies of the by-laws and of all minutes of proceedings of the village commission; and
- Act as clerk at, and keep records of, all meetings of electors.
The Clerk/Treasurer is also a Commissioner of Oaths: appointed by the Minister of Justice under the Notaries and Commissioners Act to administer oaths and take and receive affidavits, statutory declarations and affirmations with the Province of Nova Scotia. This public service is provided free of charge - contact her for an appointment.
*Please note: The Village office has relocated to 63 Regent Street, Chester, as of April 1, 2026. Due to South Shore Public Libraries’ preparation work and repairs in progress, the building will not be open to the public for another approx. 6-8 weeks. Public access for Commission business will therefore be BY APPOINTMENT ONLY until the Zoé Vallé Memorial Library can safely re-open.
